WANDERLUST WITH :: DESIGN CRUSH

Ahh, the weekend getaway. Not too long. Not too short. Just enough to (hopefully) give you a dose of rest, relaxation, and inspiration and get you back on your way. But packing for a weekend away? Now that can stress a girl out fast. Here are a few go-tos that are sure to make filling your bag a cinch, so that you can focus on the actual "getaway" part!

A-Little-Getaway_Design-Crush

Let's start off with the bag itself. Globe-Trotter's Safari collection is a bit out of my league, but this 26" suitcase shows off the classic look that I like when traveling. Leaving town for a few days doesn't mean you have to toss everything into your gym bag. Find a bag or small suitcase that fits your style!

So the thing about taking a break is that it seems like it's just then that inspiration strikes. That proposal you've been stressing over, the perfect living room arrangement, you know what I'm getting at. I like to pack a little notebook like this one from Postalco, it keeps things in one place so that I'm not kicking myself over that lost idea later.

Sunnies, naturally. If you're heading to the beach or lake they're a no brainer, but don't forget just how well a pair of shades work for hangovers or lack of actual sleep. My recent favorites are the Leonard in blonde from Illesteva, the perfect mix of style and shady seclusion.

Don't forget the music! Or your earbuds for traveling to and from your destination in solitary bliss. This East Indian Rosewood earphone organizer from Acoustic Design is perfect for stashing them away untangled while you're off galavanting.

Don't you love travel-sized toiletries?! Keep everything in check and contained in a sweet little bag. No one wants the few outfits they've packed to wind up covered in shampoo slime before the vacation even gets started. Check out this sassy chevron dopp kit from Hammocks & High Tea for a dose of color and style.

You've only got limited real estate in your bag, so it's time to get versatile. Every trip deserves a flirty dress, even better if it can take you from day to night in a pinch. The zebra print on this Matilda dress from Alice and Olivia is perfect, and the elastic waist might come in handy after dinner. And dessert.

A large printed scarf is perfect for keeping warm on chilly nights, wearing as a coverup, or even bunching up as a pillow mid-travel. Super versatile and great for adding a little pop to your outfit, too. I've got my eye on the handwoven, oversized Losha from lemlem.

Back to the idea of using everything to the max that you pack – shoes! It can be difficult not to pack six pairs for two days, oh how I know. Try to stick to the idea of one casual pair and one dressy. If they're one in the same, like these espadrille wedges from MaraisUSA, all the better!

Again with the versatility: check out this gorgeous convertible bag from DNTX. Carry it as a bag or a clutch, it's easy as removing the strap! And that leather and brass detailing on the flap takes things up more than a notch on the sexy scale for a night out.

Last but not least, don't forget to pack a tote of some sort to take newly acquired treasures/thank-you-for-watching-my-dog gifts home. I love this cheeky one from Cheese Survival Kit.

And now? Time to plan that next getaway!

WANDERLUST WITH :: SEEING DESIGN & HONEYTREK

A case of wanderlust didn't hit me like a sniffle - it overtook me from the inside out. Dreaming of exotic places around the globe wasn't going to cut it anymore, I had to make a move. Though I loved my job as Managing Editor for One Kings Lane and my life in New York City, my husband and I decided to leave it all to travel around the world. Using our honeymoon as an excuse for global exploration, we set aside 500 days to venture though South America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania (we are chronicling the journey on our blog HoneyTrek and divine finds on SeeingDesign).

Here is a look at day 21 in Chill, Chic Trancoso, Brazil...

In our three-week journey down the coast of Brazil we encountered some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, but none as chic as Trancoso, Bahia. Accessed by a semi-paved road an hour from the nearest city of Porto Seguro, we bumped along assuming this was going to be a ten-shack town but instead we found the hippest side of paradise.

If a town's center is meant to represent a place, then Trancoso planned it perfectly with the Quadrado, a wide open field surrounded by charming cafes and colorful casas. Though obscured here, the nighttime twinkle is one of my favorite features.

This Jesuit church was the heart of town in the 16th century and still is. Though I am sure the church square still has its share of devotees, this is now where artisans sell their wares and wild horses tend to congregate.

Trancoso is set on a bluff overlooking a beach filled by a system of rivers and lagoons. The change in tides keep them filling and falling, creating an ever-changing landscape that draws you down the coast. Just be warned, if you stay out too late in the day...you may have to wade part of the way home.

Trancoso is far from flashy but pay attention and you'll notice the beach is full of little paths leading to luxury hotels.

Just when you think Trancoso is all about the jetset, a guy like this will roll by to keep it real.

This washed up boat was turned into the rustic chic bar, Uxia. Love the sun hat umbrellas.

Trancoso has found the winning formula for a beach-town restaurant: massive tree for shade, big wooden patio chairs for seating, and poppy pattern pillows to draw you in. Cafe Vitoria's fun floral cushions tempted me curl up here with a book and a caipirinha.

With everyone on the beach all day, the town comes alive at night with art galleries and boutiques like Galleria FulĂ™ and staying open until 10pm or later.

Trancoso is a magical place (If a white wild pony grazing in front of a blue beach cottage didn't have you convinced.)

Relais & Chateaux is one of the most selective hotel groups in the world and there only have one property in the state of Bahia that gets its seal of approval: Estrela d' Agua. If you want to be directly on the beach this is the spot to be.

Dining

Casa Timbo is one of the chic lantern-lit restaurants under the boughs of the Quadrado but with a better price than its neighbors.

Entertainment

Aue Zum Zum has a great outdoor music scene by night. Snag a table early or just can grab a drink at the adorable pop-up bars and listen in from a bench in the square.

If you are looking for more ways to satisfy your case wanderlust, sign up for our HoneyTrek newsletter. (Warning: the contents of this blog may cause you to sell your home, quit your job, live out of a suitcase, and leave your daily life with wild abandon.) I hope you can come along for the ride.

Paris is the only stamp in my passport (not a bad one! but only one...) and I long to jet off to other places... a long, long list of places... but one that's been on the very top forever? Greece. So come on! Let's pack up and go!

WANDERLUST WITH :: MAGGIE ROSE

Maggie here from Maggie Rose Interiors. Instead of my usual Interiors to Inspire today, I'm taking inspiration from my most-dreamed of travel destination: the Andes mountains of Peru.

The region is known for its wool and leather (and of course, the beautiful ruins of Machu Picchu). Even while I only dream of someday exploring this amazing place, I can bring a little bit of it home for flare that you can't get at a box store.

This vase would be perfect nestled into my travel section of my bookshelves. This wooden accent table features detailed leatherwork. The geometric patterns of the woven cloth are timeless - while it's made as a carrying cloth, I would throw it over the back of a chair or even have it framed as art. The pillow is a very traditional design made with natural dyes. The mirror is made by painting the backside of glass so the delicate artwork won't be damaged (the motif is "Garden of Love"). This onyx necklace would dress up even a white tee. Finally, I would add this dress to my closet in a heartbeat - the designs are inspired by Peruvian traditions and made in the Andes.
