new items!

ah, the joys of upcycling! these are a few of the new items i'll have at the upcoming jingle bash (nov 21), the dallas flea (dec 5), and soon at make.

winter pillows made from crocheted blankets, market totes made from upholstery remnants (the shoulder strap is made from trim found on track suits - i lucked out and came across a big bundle!)

good eatin'

there are only a few things i can really cook. but i am pretty good at those few things, so i trick people into thinking i'm a good cook. (ha! fooled you!) i thought i would share one of my go-to appetizers - which is also a perfect light dinner. it's always a crowd pleaser, simple to make, and conveniently comes in holiday colors!

bruschetta a la laura...

slice french bread (i use pepperidge farms 'hot & crusty') diagonally. drizzle extra virgin olive oil over it, top with vine-ripe tomato slices. top that with fresh (not grated) mozzarella and sprinkle on some basil. broil until cheese is melty and edges of bread start to brown, remove from oven and double up the basil-power with fresh basil. eat while hot. when entertaining, i prepare it ahead of time and stick it in the fridge. yummm...

sorry, blog. i have been busy.

my new job is absolutely wonderful... i feel so incredibly lucky.  it's a lot of work, but definitely worth it!  this is our third week in the office, and it's beginning to look almost-complete.  we've done a lot of painting, and hauling furniture, and hanging pictures, and this week is sewing and slipcovering (while also doing the real work.)  i'll post more pictures once it's all done, but for now here's a quick peek at my desk...

(check out the amazing giant macbook!!!) i just put up the wallpaper today... soon it will have a reclaimed wood header.  also to come - huge rug and white airy curtains.  and the desk chair that i still need to paint and reupholster.  we scavenged our houses and garages for most of the furniture and decor - it's fun to see all of our stuff mixed together in new ways (plus, my bosses have great stuff!) it looks much better in person - the iphone just doesn't do it justice.  i have a big wall of windows so i get great light... but when it gets late in the day i can't see because i opted to put a bookcase in front of the lightswitch and can't turn on the fluorescents... i'm hanging a pendant with a vintage wallpaper drum shade over my desk, so once that is installed i can work until the wee hours of the night.

love, love, love my job.  just have to brag a little.

i'm working on some freelance projects and design lab stuff in my spare time, and soon will be restocking my etsy shop (after i restock my wonderful retailers, of course!)

here we go again...

the sweetest puppy showed up at our door today... he is incredibly skinny, but very very sweet and friendly.  for now he's staying in our backyard gettin fat and happy, but he might need a home soon.  (there's a chance we might try to keep him...we're going to see how it goes.)  we think he's a pit mix, maybe with some lab.  if you're interested, let me know!

lucy is extremely happy...but he's too weak right now to really play with her. she did run some laps around him, though.
